Our sufficiency is in Christ!

Scripture reading for July 31st: 2nd Corinthians 3, Psalm 2, Proverbs 28-29  (two chapters of Proverbs today to enable going to odd Psalms every other day)

Key Scriptures: 2nd Corinthians 3:3-6  “And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.  Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God.  Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit.  For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”

Paul, writing again to the Church in Corinth, contrasted his own ministry with those who boasted of their own sufficiency.  His ministry had produced the fruit of changed lives through the work of the Holy Spirit.  The Spirit had written God’s law of love on human hearts to bring about the change.  Effort to keep the letter of the law produced only death but the Spirit gave life.  The only boast Paul had was in God’s faithfulness and work by the Holy Spirit.

Faith Confession:  I thank God that He has declared me sufficient as a minister of the new covenant of the Holy Spirit.  He works through me by the Holy Spirit and God’s Word to bring about heart change in those who believe.

Proverbs 29:25 “The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.”

Abundance through giving!

Scripture reading for August 8th:  Psalm 79-82, 2nd Corinthians 9

Key Scriptures: 2nd Corinthians 9:6-8 “The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.  Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.  And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.”

As Paul was encouraging the Corinthians to give an offering to help the needy in Jerusalem, he shared the spiritual law of sowing and reaping.  When you give, it is like sowing seed.  Seed that is sown has the potential of producing a harvest.  If God blesses the seed, it will increase and you will reap.  The more seed you sow, the greater the potential of great increase.  God loves to give increase and bless those who sow in faith into His kingdom.  They abound in grace and have sufficiency!

Psalm 79:13 “But we Your people, the sheep of Your pasture, will give thanks to You forever; from generation to generation we will recount Your praise.”

Prayer:  Lord, thank You for Your great generosity in blessing Your people’s giving.  Help me to keep a generous spirit and be a cheerful giver.  Thank You for the abundant harvest.  Amen.

Sufficiency in all things, always!

Scripture reading for August 9th:  2nd Corinthians 9

Key Scriptures for over-comers:  2nd Corinthians 9:6-8  “Remember this:  Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.  Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.  Ans God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times having all you need, you will abound in every good work.”

Being a farmer, I am well aware of the law of sowing and reaping.  You must sow before you reap.  You have to use enough seed to reap the maximum benefit.  The sower must also sow in faith, with a cheerful disposition and expectation of harvest.  You harvest more than you sowed because seed multiplies because of God’s amazing grace of design and His blessing for provision.   These principles also apply in giving of tithes and offerings to God for His work.  If we sow cheerfully and generously, we will reap abundantly!  God will shower His grace on us to enable us to continue giving and doing His work!

Observations for over-comers:  Believers are cheerful and generous people who give freely and enjoy sufficiency in all things at all times enabling good works to God’s glory!  “Praise the Lord.  Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who finds great delight in His commands. . . .He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor, his righteousness endures forever; his horn will be lifted high in honor.”  (Psalm 112:1,9)
