Scripture reading for October 29th: Jeremiah 20-22, Hebrews 12
Scripture reading: Hebrews 12:25-29 “See that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused Him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject Him who warns from heaven. At that time His voice shook the earth, but now He has promised, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” . . .”Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.”
God spoke to His people in the Old Testament from the cloud and the fire of Mt. Sinai and in the New Testament through Jesus Christ, God’s Son and final Word from God in Heaven. The earth shook at Mt. Sinai and God promises that He will shake the earth once more at the return of Jesus Christ for His Church. His people receive an “unshakable Kingdom,” but those who have rejected His Word will be shaken out!
Jeremiah 20:13 “Sing to the Lord; praise the Lord! For He has delivered the life of the needy from the hand of evildoers.”
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to proclaim Your Word to those in the world who have not heard His voice. I worship You with reverence and awe for Your great mercy and deliverance! Amen.
Scripture reading for August 15th: Psalm 98-100, Galatians 1
Key Scriptures: Psalm 99:1-5 “The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble! The Lord is great in Zion; He is exalted over all the peoples. Let them praise Your great and awesome Name! Holy is He! The King in His might loves justice. You have established equity; You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob. Exalt the Lord our God; worship at His footstool! Holy is He!”
The psalmist calls God’s people to worship and holy awe because of Who He is. He is the Holy One. He is the Just One. He is the fair and impartial judge of all mankind whose Name and reputation is awesome. This calls for worship and reverence in contemplation of His holiness.
Galatians 1:3-5 “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to Whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.”
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the grace extended to all mankind through the Lord Jesus Christ. Your grace and holiness call me to worship You–now and forever! Amen.
