Scripture reading for July 8th: 1st Corinthians 2
Paul had explained to the believers at Corinth that God chose those society deemed most lowly to exalt His Son Christ Jesus and stop human boasting in human works. “It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God–that is our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.” (1st Corinthians 1:28-30) Christ takes the lowly and declares them righteous and makes them holy through redemption by faith in His blood!
Even though Paul originally came to Corinth in weakness and fear himself, his message was simple: Jesus Christ and Him crucified! (1st Corinthians 2:2) The message of Christ and His sacrificial death brought the power of God for salvation to those who would humbly listen and believe. This message of Christ is a message of wisdom that opens the door for those who believe to understand the things God wants to freely give to them.
Human eyes cannot see God’s plans and purposes and human minds cannot fathom all that God has prepared for those who love Him. (1st Corinthians 2:9) But God took the initiative and gave the Holy Spirit to those who believe in Christ Jesus. Through the Spirit we can begin to understand the thoughts of God recorded in the Holy Scriptures. His plans and purposes come to light and those with the Holy Spirit end up having “the mind of Christ!” (1st Corinthians 2:16) Not only do we know Christ Jesus, we begin to think like Him because we have His thoughts in our minds and do His will! The power of God comes through the Gospel message to transform lowly members of the human family into spiritual men and women who are wise with God’s wisdom! What amazing grace!
