Scripture reading for October 25th: Hebrews 9
Key Scriptures for over-comers: Hebrews 9:22, 26-29 “In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. . . . . . But now He (Jesus) has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself. Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation of those who are waiting for Him.”
The Old Testament picture of an innocent animal being sacrificed and the blood sprinkled on the altar or mercy seat was meant to illustrate the need for cleansing sinners with blood. The soul that sins must die because the penalty for sin–breaking God’s law–is death. All sin leads to death. But God, rich in mercy, chose to send His only begotten Son to live as a perfect man and offer His own body and blood–once for all! Jesus rose from the dead and is coming again for those who have trusted in Him.
Observations for over-comers: Over-comers can rest in the finished work of Jesus Christ and His final sacrifice for the sins of those who repent and believe! “Aaron shall bring the bull for his own sin offering to make atonement for himself and his household. . . . .He shall then slaughter the goat for the sin offering for the people and take its blood behind the curtain and do with it as he did with the bull’s blood: He shall sprinkle it on the atonement cover and in front of it.” (Leviticus 16:11, 15)
Scripture reading for October 26th: Hebrews 9
“When Christ came as High Priest of the good things that are already here, He went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation. He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves, but He entered the Most Holy Place once for all by His own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that the are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself unblemished to God cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God.” (Hebrews 9:11-14)
We note that the ‘good things’ of the New Covenant are ‘already here! Christ’s work and sacrifice bought ‘eternal redemption’ that is ours now! We can have consciences that are cleansed from past sinful acts and now serve the Living God without fear or shame. His sacrifice was once–for all men’s sins! (Hebrews 9:26-27) His sacrifice was offered in the heavenly Tabernacle in God’s presence meeting the Father’s requirement for justice. The foundation of His throne is righteousness and justice. (Psalm 89:14) The blood of goats and bulls could never truly atone for man’s sins, but only provided a temporary covering. But Christ’s blood was sufficient because it was human blood, but not tainted by sin. Praise the Lord for His amazing love and faithfulness to provide the perfect sacrifice! Praise the Lord that it is available to all who will believe on Christ Jesus our Lord! He is coming again with full salvation for those who are waiting for Him! (Hebrews 9:28)
