Scripture reading for June 28th: Romans 12, Psalm 129, Proverbs 5
Key Scriptures: Romans 12:17-21 “Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Paul was instructing the Romans in proper behavior for believers in Jesus. They were to offer their bodies as and living sacrifice and renew their minds. One area needing attention was revenge. Christ-followers must never take revenge into their own hands. They must instead do good to those who mistreat them in hope that they might see Jesus and be saved. God alone can repay but He would rather show mercy to a repentant sinner.
Faith Confession: Lord, to You alone belongs all judgment and repayment for wrongs. Lead me daily to do good to those who mistreat me because of You.
Proverbs 5:21 “For a man’s ways are before the eyes of the Lord; and He ponders all his paths.”
Scripture reading for January 9th: Genesis 22-24, Matthew 7
Key Scriptures: Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your Name, and cast out demons in Your Name, and do many mighty works in Your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'”
Jesus warned His disciples that superficial religion and good works were of no value without a personal relationship of faith and obedience. We may profess His Name, but not know Him. We may do mighty works, but God will not be fooled about the true condition of our souls. All faith and works will be tested by God’s seeing eyes!
Genesis 22:1-3 “After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and his son Isaac.”
Prayer: Lord, I want to truly know you. Through Your all-seeing eyes, bring my hidden sins and evil motives to light that I might walk with You in truth. Amen
