Holy separation

Scripture reading for July 11th:  Psalm 9-12, 1st Corinthians 5

Key Scriptures:  1st Corinthians 5:11-13 “But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler–not even to eat with such a one.  For what have I to do with judging outsiders?  Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge?  God judges those outside.  “Purge the evil person from among you.””

Although all judgment concerning eternal destiny belongs to God, Paul urged those in leadership in Christ’s church to discipline those in the church who called themselves a Christian.  If there was known and flagrant sin, there must be holy separation.  Those living in known sin must be made aware of the danger that they may be cut off from Christ.  All church discipline should be done with love and prayer for restoration, recognizing the Lord as the ultimate judge of all.

Psalm 11:4  “The Lord is in His holy temple; and the Lord’s throne is in heaven;  His eyes see, His eyelids test the children of man.”

Prayer:  Lord, it is comforting to know that You see all mankind and know the heart.  Help those in church leadership to discipline those needing correction in Your church as You direct .  Amen.
