Become a man of prayer!

Scripture reading for September 25th:  1st Timothy 2

“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone–for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.  This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth.  For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men– the testimony given in its proper time.”  (1st Timothy 2:1-6)

Pastors (and all believers) must base their ministry upon prayer!   Praying for those in authority is a priority.  At the time of Paul’s writing, he was in prison under Nero, a very wicked Roman emperor.   We must pray for leaders, whether good or evil!  This is because we desire a quiet and godly life and freedom to share the Gospel with all men.   God wants all men, even the evil and wicked, to be saved.  This was Jesus’ mission and the reason for His sacrifice on the cross.

Jesus’ present ministry is one of prayer as well.  He is the only Mediator between between God and man.  He is presently seated on the throne of Heaven at the Father’s right hand.  (Hebrews 4:14-16)  Pastors must build their ministry on prayer for all men in order to please God and obey Christ.  Only through Christ can sinners be drawn to Christ (John 6:65) and laborers sent into His harvest field.  (Luke 10:2)

“I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.”  (1st Timothy 2:8)  All believers must become people of prayer.  A right relationship with others keeps the line open with the Father!  Let’s go for it!
