Living a life worthy of God!
Scripture reading for September 15th: 1st Thessalonians 2
Paul sought to encourage the church that he had so courageously founded in the midst of strong opposition. He reminded them of his conduct among them and how he had spoken to them the precious Gospel given to him and them by God through His Son, Jesus Christ. He also reminded them how he had worked tirelessly with his own hands so as not to be a burden on them for financial support. His motive was not financial gain, but their highest good in receiving the true Gospel message and becoming established in it.
“For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into His kingdom and glory. And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in those who believe.” (1st Thessalonians 2:11-13) Paul commended them for their reception of the message of the Gospel as the ‘word of God’! As God’s word, it is full of His Spirit and life and it works inside of each believer to produce the life of Christ. Paul called them to actually live a life worthy of God, their heavenly Father. God had called them into His family and kingdom and they would eventually share His glory.
“For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when He comes? Is it not you? Indeed, you are our glory and joy!” (1st Thessalonians 2:18-20)
